Short Communication AVOIDANCE, WEIGHT LOSS, AND COCOON PRODUCTION ASSESSMENT FOR EISENIA FETIDA EXPOSED TO C60 IN SOIL
نویسندگان
چکیده
Eisenia fetida was used as a model terrestrial organism to assess the potential ecotoxicity of molecular pristine C60 in soil. Reproduction (assessed by counting cocoon numbers) was hindered only at very high C60 concentrations (5% by weight), and C60 (up to 1%) was not avoided and did not hinder earthworm growth. This suggests that E. fetida is unlikely to experience acute toxicity as a result of C60 occurrence in soil. Whether sublethal toxicity may decrease earthworm populations that are chronically exposed to C60 at lower concentrations remains to be determined. Environ. Toxicol. Effects of Cry1Ab Transgenic Maize on Lifecycle and Biomarker Responses of the Earthworm, Eisenia Andrei
A 28-day study was conducted to determine the effects of the Bacillus thuringiensis Cry1Ab toxin on the earthworm Eisenia andrei. Previously, investigations have been limited to life-cycle level effects of this protein on earthworms, and mostly on E. fetida. In this study several endpoints were compared which included biomass changes, cocoon production, hatching success, a cellular metal-stres...
متن کاملBehavioural Endpoints in Earthworm Ecotoxicology Evaluation of Different Test Systems in Soil Toxicity Assessment
Background, Aims and Scope. Endpoints in earthworm ecotoxicology scheduled in guidelines are mortality and reproduction rates. However, not only the direct influence of pollutants on population parameters but also changes in behaviour such as substrate avoidance can have an important impact on soil ecosystems. In practice two different avoidance response tests are applied in earthworm ecotoxico...

In mulberry orchards in northern part of Iran, thrips is a dominant pest and causing a lot of damage to the mulberry. The effect of pest on bio-chemical parameters of mulberry leaf of two varieties viz. Kenmochi and Ichenoise and also the effect of feeding of infested leaves on rearing performances have been studied. For the study, six plots of 200 m2 area of both the varieties were selected an...

African wild silkmoth, Gonometa postica Walker (Lepidoptera: Lasiocampidae), were reared indoors in order to examine the influence of rearing conditions on the structure and properties of silk cocoon shells and degummed fibers by using a scanning electron microscope, an Instron tensile tester, and a thermogravimetric analyzer. The cocoons reared indoors showed inferior quality in weight, length...
متن کاملSome Features of Water Saving in Aporia crataegi L. Caterpillars Inhabiting Areas of Dry Climate in Eastern Siberia (Yakutia, Russia)
Climate in Yakutia is characterized by low winter and hot summer temperatures that cause extreme low air humidity reaching up to 30% in varied periods. Therefore, insects in Yakutia are seasonally faced to extremely dry air that forced them to create special adaptation mechanisms during evolution. Estimation of water balance for Aporia crataegi L. caterpillars was based on measurements of rates...
